Assessment Guidelines

This assessment is a 3000-word annotated bibliography. There are two sections, Section A and Section B.

Section A

You need to find four different pieces of evidence.

Choose just one of the following subject areas to be the focus for your four pieces of evidence:

  • Continuity of Carer
  • Nutrition and pregnancy
  • Alcohol and pregnancy

1. Systematic review (250 words)

One systematic review. You should present a full reference for the systematic review using the Harvard referencing format as your subheading and a summary that details the following:

  • an explanation of what a systematic review is (with a reference)
  • the question this systematic review is asking
  • how many primary research articles are in this systematic review

Your systematic review must be related to your profession and it might be related to the chosen subject area.

2. Qualitative research article (500 words)

One qualitative primary research article. You should present a full reference for the journal article using the Harvard referencing format as your subheading and then a summary that details the following:

  • The type of qualitative research methodology used
  • Where the research was conducted
  • The research question or aim of the research
  • How many participants were involved and how they were recruited
  • How the data were collected and analysed
  • Summarise the key findings

3. Quantitative research article (500 words)

One quantitative primary research article. You should present a full reference for the article using the Harvard referencing format as your subheading and then a summary that details the following:

  • The type of quantitative research methodology used
  • Where the research was conducted
  • The research question or aim of the research
  • How many participants were involved and how they were recruited
  • How the data were collected
  • Summarise the key findings

4. Clinical guideline (250 words)

One clinical guideline. You should present a full reference for the clinical guideline using the Harvard referencing format and then a summary that details the following:

  • Who has produced the clinical guideline
  • The purpose of the clinical guideline
  • The range of evidence used to inform the guideline

 

 

Section B (1500 words)

Write a 1500-word essay based on your chosen topic. You must include:

  • an explanation of how holistic care and assessment promotes individuals` rights, dignity, interests, preferences, beliefs and cultures supports a person-centred approach
  • public health and wellbeing by exploring public health priorities within your chosen focus and explore strategies to promote health
  • the four pieces of evidence, as well as relevant additional literature
  • your professional code

Your references are not included in the word count. You are required to present one reference list for the annotated bibliography. This should be presented after Section B. Please begin you reference list on a new page.

Please put your word count after each entry for Section A and at the end of Section B.

Formatting

Your work needs to be submitted before the deadline of 4.00pm on the 16th January 2023. Please leave plenty of time before the deadline to upload and submit your work. Your work needs to be submitted in

  • Microsoft word (.doc or .docx) or Adobe PDF (.pdf)
  • Ariel font sized 12
  • Double spaced
  • Page numbered
  • Be within the word allowance by 10% (there are penalties for being over the word count by more than 10% please see your programme handbook)

Learning Outcomes

This assessment will measure how well you have met the following learning outcomes: Section A

7. Effectively retrieve information and discuss the importance of evidence to inform practice, identify the differing values of evidence and the importance of recognising ‘uncertainty` in evidence.

8. Consider the purpose of research and how it contributes to improving health and wellbeing; by developing an understanding of the different types of research and the terminology used within qualitative and quantitative approaches.

11. Develop an understanding of the need and rationale for, an evidence base to underpin decision-making and problem-solving in practice.

 

Section B

1. Explore the importance of holistic care and assessment promoting individuals` rights, dignity, interests, preferences, beliefs and cultures; to develop an understanding of human identity using a person-centred approach.

2. Develop an understanding of personal and professional values and behaviour in accordance with relevant professional codes.

13.Demonstrate an understanding of public health and wellbeing, and public health priorities for different individuals, groups and communities and develop communication and strategies to promote health
