Assessment Brief

This assessment will provide you with the opportunity to evidence your ability to apply knowledge and understanding of how to contribute to the work of organisations, at a social work student end of first placement level. You will use a case study to demonstrate fulfilling the elements of the Professional Capabilities Framework and Social Work England’s Professional Standards. There will be inclusion of evidence of applying assessment, planning and review methods to social work practice in adult and child settings. Explaining the concept of the reflective practitioner and demonstrate critical reflective writing about your practice. Inclusion of evidence of applying a variety of theories to practice settings including the cycle of change, motivational interviewing, conflict resolution and solution focused approaches. Evidence of developing an analytic understanding of and application in practice of professional values and ethics including the Social Work England guidance on Professional Standards. Essay to be written in the first person.

Specific Assessment Criteria:

Distinction (70% and above)

A high level of critical reflection is shown within the essay. Extensive evidence is applied to the case study to demonstrate your ability to apply knowledge and understanding of how to contribute to the work of organisations, at a social work student end of first placement level. Clear evidence of fulfilling the elements of the Professional Capabilities Framework and the Social Work England Professional Standards.  An extensive range of social work theories will have been used within the case study. Extensive research demonstrating the use of a wide range of current secondary research sources will be evident. Referencing and English will be excellent and meet the standard assessment criteria. Excellent reference list. 

Merit (60-69%)

A good level of critical reflection is shown within the essay. A wide range of evidence is applied to the case study to demonstrate your ability to apply knowledge and understanding of how to contribute to the work of organisations, at a social work student end of first placement level. Clear evidence of fulfilling the elements of the Professional Capabilities Framework and the Social Work England Professional Standards.  A good range of social work theories will have been used within the case study. Wider research demonstrating use of a good range of current secondary research sources will be evident.  Referencing and English will be good and meet the standard presentation assessment criteria. Pass (50%-59%)

Satisfactory reference list that meets the minimum requirements (see below).

Fail (Below 50%): Students who do not meet the requirements of the Pass criteria will not successfully complete the assessment activity.

Minimum Secondary Research Source Requirements:

Level HE7 - It is expected that the Reference List will contain between fifteen to twenty sources. As a MINIMUM the Reference List should include four refereed academic journals and five academic books. LO1: Apply assessment, planning and review methods to social work practice in adult and child settings.
