How you structured the assignment to meet the required layout and structural features of the chosen assignment brief.
About this Unit
This unit requires you to build a portfolio of evidence which covers a range of different study skills. The different elements of the portfolio will be a combination of work that you have already completed as part of your programme, as well as reflective and evaluative commentary. You will need to complete your portfolio one element at a time using the guidance provided. It is advisable to complete this unit in stages – do not attempt to complete all of the questions in one study session. This unit is ungraded, but will be awarded upon successful achievement of all assessment criteria and learning outcomes. Remember: this assignment has to be all your own work. Whilst properly referenced content is fine and encouraged, any work that is not wholly your own effort has to be acknowledged as such and correctly referenced using the Harvard format.
Please ensure the choosing 2 unit contains bibliography, reference, quotation and citation
Question 1
You need to choose and upload two different types of assignments which you have submitted, and that have been marked and graded. You also need to upload the accompanying two assignment plans.
Guidance
Once uploaded, you need to write a summary which explains each of the following:
How you structured the assignment to meet the required layout and structural features of the chosen assignment brief.
How each assignment demonstrates the use of the assessment verbs. For example, how did you decide to ‘explain’ or ‘discuss’ a particular topic?
How each assignment demonstrates your understanding of different subject specific terminology and academic English language.
How you used your assignment plan to develop a structured and logical response to the requirements of the assignment brief.
You may wish to highlight the relevant section of each assignment and refer to these within your summary to make the examples easier to identify and explain. The summary must be a maximum of 500 words.
Question 2
Demonstrate your understanding of the use of language in different texts.
Guidance
Choose two texts you used when researching one of the assignments uploaded for question 1. For each text you need to explain what type of source it is i.e. a book, website, journal etc. You must explain the context and purpose of each text and define the authorial voice and register used. You then need to evaluate the language used in each text for clarity and the relevance of the text in relation to the assignment brief. Your answer must be a maximum of 500 words.
Question 3
Explain three different reading strategies.
Guidance
Write an explanation of three different reading strategies. You need to explain the purpose of the three reading strategies you have selected and how you have applied these to your research. If you have not used three reading strategies to date, then you need to include in your explanation if you would/would not use a reading strategy and why. Your answer should be a maximum of 300 words.
Question 4
Write an evaluation of three different note taking methods from a range of sources.
Guidance
Your evaluation must include three different methods for taking notes and not just those that you have used to complete your assignments to date.
When evaluating the note taking methods you have used, consider the positives and limitations of each, how effective the methods have been for you and why. You should also highlight if you had made any changes to your note taking method and why, and how you could improve things for future assignments.
You must include note taking methods that you have not used to date, whether you would consider using them in the future and why. You must also include some conclusions. The evaluation must be a maximum of 500 words.
Question 5
Guidance
Upload a copy of a full set of notes that you have produced when putting an assignment together. This can be a set of research notes or notes produced to support a presentation. The notes can be in electronic or scanned form, but the content must be clearly visible. The notes must have been researched from wider sources and not from the course study materials. Your notes must have been taken from both written and spoken sources. You also need to upload a references list to support the notes. You will then need to write a summary to support your notes. Within the summary you must explain each of the following:
The note taking method used and why you used it.
Three subject themes you have researched within your notes.
The summary should be a maximum of 200 words.
Question 6
Guidance
Referring to the assignments you have uploaded for question 1, highlight two examples of where you have quoted in the assignment and the corresponding reference list entry. Then write a summary that explains why you used these quotations and why it is important to cite and reference these accurately using Harvard Referencing Technique. The summary should be a maximum of 200 words. The assignments must include citations, references list and at least one bibliography. If the assignments you have uploaded for question one do not include these elements, then you must upload two assignments to this question that do include them.
