Read the weekly construction press over the period September 2023 to December 2023.
Register with the Construction News using your ‘bolton.ac.uk’ email address. Also read for example New Civil Engineer and monthly professional body magazines. Also, download the apps or use the web-based versions of the daily construction press; read them daily. For example: ‘The Construction Index’ and ‘Construction Enquirer’.
Use the weekly and daily press to give leads to authoritative reports; by for example government, professional bodies, and trade associations.
Your task: Identify several key and current issues in construction management, select one with reasons for critical appraisal and make judgements about likely future medium-term developments. Ensure your writing embraces ‘health and safety’ and ‘sustainability’.
Other issues may include finance or technology advancements including Generative AI application in the industry. Include in your work an international flavour. Your work should not include citations that are pre-year 2023, unless there is occasional reference to key documents that are the basis of current events. Circa 2000 words; 70% of the mark for this assessment

(i) Using Appendix A, write a ‘personal CPD (continual professional development) development action plan looking forward three years.

Your CPD must include evidence of you engaging with at least two externally provided professional seminars that you attend physically or remotely (use your initiative to look for free construction management related events that interest you personally; you are not expected to pay fees). Also, include outputs building information model you recently designed as part of evidence.
(iii) Provide an up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV).
(iv) Critically appraise the code of conduct of one international professional body. circa 1000 words; 30% of the mark for this assessment

A critical evaluation of your own leadership strengths and weaknesses will be set out with theory linked to findings. Areas and strategies for personal development will be clearly summarised and justified, and set out in a leadership development plan. Some original reflections will be presented. Research demonstrating use of a range of relevant research sources will be evident. Academic writing style, English and referencing will be satisfactory.
