Workbook Guidance and Information

This graded workbook forms part of the assessment for this part of the Module. Each question is allocated marks which will be combined for an overall grade.

The questions are based around professionalism and professional issues related to the role of the paramedic and Nursing in practice-based scenarios.

The workbook will help you to understand in more detail the overall content of this module and its relevance for practice.

This workbook allows you to develop knowledge and skills in the following areas:

1

Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of the values and beliefs that underpin professional practice

2

Discuss expectations of professional behaviour in practice

3

Search for information using a range of approaches and from a range of sources

4

Recognize the value of a range of professional literature to inform practice

5

Demonstrate an appropriate academic style in written work, including Harvard referencing

Guidance - The following guidance should help with regards to the word limit and completing the workbook:

When completing the workbook, you are advised that your text across all the answers should be to a total of no more than 1500 words (+/-10%). There is an approximate word count at the end of each section to guide you with this, however, it is your decision how many words you dedicate to each answer.

This word count applies to the work that you complete and not the words already within the workbook, such as the patient and procedural information and the questions themselves.

The questions receiving more marks require more words and a more detailed discussion of the evidence.

All answers must be supported by evidence from theories, research and practice and the evidence must be supported by reference to the curren

literature, within all of your answers. Your reference list should be placed at the end of the completed workbook. This is NOT included in the word count.

You are required to access and download an electronic copy of the workbook from the OMED 1390 Professional and Academic Development Moodle page and to complete the workbook in an electronic format.

Rationale for the Professionalism and Professional Accountability in Clinical Skills Study Guide

This workbook has been developed to enable Nursing students to develop their knowledge, skills, values and attitudes of professional issues embedded in acquiring and practising clinical skills. Adopting a multi-professional approach to care will promote standardised practice in the delivery of health care procedures, will encourage effective working relationships and will provide patients with access to multi-skilled, flexible health care practitioners.

How to Use this Workbook Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of the values and beliefs that underpin professional practice

This workbook will support Nursing students in their studying by enabling them to work at their own pace.

The students will consider professional issues in the context of their own practice, whilst encouraging participants to become aware of related professional issues that affect other health care practitioners.

Demonstrating a professional approach to practice underpins the delivery of all procedural skills in health care. This professionalism workbook should therefore be completed as part of the OMED 1390 Academic and Professional Development module. Throughout the text, activities are provided which will encourage the use of reflective, decision-making, observational and cognitive skills.
