You are required to write a 4000-word Qualitative report that applies at least one social psychological theory. For this, you should apply discourse analysis (DA) to the provided speech. You should format this in the style of a research report and analyse the speech in line with the supplied real-world topic.

Assignment instructions:

For this assignment, you must choose at least one relevant theory from social psychology to analyse and critically evaluate the speech below in the form of a qualitative report:

  • The topic: Social Cognition

• The title: Discursive constructions of social cognition

Your report should include:

1. An abstract that summarises your report.

2. An introduction that outlines the topic area, critically reviews key literature and provides a brief rationale for your report, closing with the aims of your report.

3. A method section that justifies the method of analysis, and describes the analytical process followed.

4. A results section that provides a write-up of the discourse analysis. You should interpret the speech and apply theory here.

5. A discussion section that summarises your key findings and discusses and critically evaluates them in line with previous literature.

You should provide a full reference list in APA format, as well as evidence of your analysis in an appendix (e.g. coding of your discourse analysis). These do not form part of the word count.

Throughout your assignment, you should use scientific evidence to support your points.

1. Demonstrate a critical understanding of foundational concepts and theoretical perspectives in social psychology.

2. Apply core theories and concepts of social psychology to critically analyse and address contemporary social issues.

3. Demonstrate a critical understanding of qualitative methodological approaches in social psychology, using an evidence-based rationale and appropriate application of a chosen qualitative approach.

4. Critically evaluate scientific evidence to support arguments and address questions regarding human psychology.
