In addition, it explores facilitation techniques, whether face -to-face or online, and the principles and ethics that underpin the delivery of an outstanding learning experience.

CIPD’s insight

Learning and Development Evolving Practice (Aug 2020)

Learning and development (L&D) departments are facing various challenges to ensure they deliver on their organisation’s expectations. Rather than waiting for change to happen, L&D professionals need to be at the heart of change and embrace the opportunities and the challenges it brings.

This factsheet offers ‘10 shifts’ in L&D which provide a framework for L&D professionals to measure themselves against to audit their current practice and the overall goal they want to achieve. It allows practitioners to consider gaps, progress, actions and priorities for each. There’re also links to f urther information within each area.

Creating learning cultures: assessing the evidence

Organisations have had to change where they work, how they work, and even reconsider the services they offer. The ability to learn, adapt and continuously improve in the face of this challenge is vital.

To remain relevant in a challenging labour market, organisations need to think strategically about how they invest in and develop their human capital. One way to do this is to create a supportive learning environment where learning is not only embedded but encouraged across every level of the organisation – often described as a learning culture.

Our latest research unpacks what learning culture means in practice, and what you can to do to embed a learning environment in your organisation.

Case Study

Asanom.com Inc. is one of the world’s largest online marketplaces, where individuals and retailers can buy and sell products and such as electricals, clothing, video games, books, apparel, furniture, f ood, toys and jewellery. They have a complex infrastructure with their own product portfolio, fast expanding in the digital marketplace. Their logistics and distribution functions support their business model, with same and next day delivery available on a majority of products.

With a complex range of stakeholders, the L&D function is required to proactively support talent development. The organisation is global, however there is a strong focus on local knowledge of the territories in which they operate. Therefore, country specific L&D teams work to provide personalised and accessible learning for their staff.

The CEO has tasked the L&D function to generate a leadership development programme to be applied across the organisation. As part of this you need to prepare a report on Facilitating Personalised and Performance Focused Learning and then deliver or facilitate an inclusive learning and development activity that sits within the leadership development programme.
