Delivery and assessment guidance |
|
This unit must be assessed in line with Skills for Care and Development assessment principles guidance. This is a knowledge and skill-based unit. Knowledge evidence may be generated outside of the work environment, but the final assessment and decision must show application of knowledge within the real work environment. LO 2 is skill-based, and primary evidence should include observation of direct practice in the workplace. Due to the nature of this unit and scenarios where this evidence is likely to be gained, for example, in direct practice whilst providing care and support to individuals, this observation should be in person and not carried out remotely. |
AC M9 Health and Safety (General) (T/651/9998) – NCFE Level 3 Adult Care
LO1: Understand own responsibilities, and the responsibilities of others, relating to health and safety
AC 1.1 Identify legislation relating to health and safety in a care work setting
A damaged hoist, an unsafe transfer and a hazardous cleaning chemical can all put someone at risk in a care home. But they do not all fall under the same specific regulations.
For AC 1.1, knowing the name of an Act is only the starting point. The important distinction is which legislation applies to the work being carried out and what that law requires.
| Situation in a care setting | Relevant UK legislation |
|---|---|
| Keeping staff, residents and visitors safe | Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 |
| Assessing risks before supporting someone with mobility difficulties | Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 |
| Checking a patient hoist is suitable and safe to use | Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) |
| Handling hazardous disinfectants or contaminated materials | Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) |
A detail worth checking: Reporting an accident to a care manager is not necessarily the same as reporting it to the HSE under RIDDOR 2013. Only incidents meeting the legal reporting criteria must be reported under RIDDOR.
This AC M9 unit also needs to be distinguished from the older NCFE Adult Care qualification, where AC M9 covered safeguarding. Check the reference T/651/9998 before using existing notes or answers.
Got AC M9 Health and Safety (General) to complete? The written questions go beyond naming a few laws. You`ll also need to deal with employer responsibilities, tasks requiring special training and procedures for sudden illness. With our CACHE Assignment Help, you can request writing assistance for the knowledge-based sections of your Level 3 care portfolio. Send us unit T/651/9998 and the assessment criteria you need covered, so the work is based on your actual brief rather than a general health and safety assignment. Workplace observations remain your own assessed evidence.
