This assignment is for the optional module, Jewellery Services and Repairs.

1. Your manager has asked you to look into the possibility of offering engraving as an addition to your current range of services. Write a short report that evaluates the key factors that you must consider to ensure that engraving becomes a viable addition to the business? (AC1.1)

2. A customer’s repair has been entered onto your repair system and now needs to be sent to an external workshop for repair. Prepare an aide-memoire that describes the various stages, checks and procedures that must occur when sending out repairs and returning watches and jewellery to the customer following repair. (AC1.2)

3. A customer is enquiring about having several items of jewellery repaired by your company. For the four items described below, prepare an email to the customer that details:

   1. The information that you will need from them in order to fully understand the repair work required.

   2. The work that will be carried out to ensure a top quality repair is achieved.

      • The four items are:

        1. A lady’s plain platinum wedding ring which is currently a size L and now requires sizing up to a size P. The ring is hallmarked and engraved inside with a date.

        2. A double row of uniform Akoya Cultured Pearls for rethreading. Only one row has snapped near the clasp, which the elderly owner is really struggling to operate.

        3. A lady’s stainless steel bracelet watch (brand of your choosing) with automatic movement requiring a full service. The watch is only worn at weekends.

        4. A lady’s yellow gold, solid curb link bracelet that has snapped just behind the bolt ring fastener. The customer is also asking if anything can be done to make the bracelet more secure as it has fallen off twice in the last week. (AC1.3)

   3. Having agreed to leave all four items for repair you now need to prepare detailed descriptions and repair instructions for each item so that it:

      • Can be clearly identified.

• • • Avoids any potential damage claims.
