Written assignment submitted: By 12pm (unless otherwise stated) on date of stipulated on the Assessment schedule

Resubmission period: By 12pm (unless otherwise stated) on the date stipulated on the Assessment schedule

Feedback: For 1st attempt assessments, feedback will normally be provided 20 working days after the point of submission. 

For 2nd/3rd attempts (or deferred attempts), feedback will normally be provided 15 working days after the point of submission.

Grading: The assessment will be assessed against the marking criteria.

Format: The expected format of this assessment should be a word document

Length: 2000 words. 

It is permissible to exceed the stated word limit by up to 10%, without penalty. Assignments which exceed these limits are liable to be penalised by the deduction of 5 marks per 1000 words excess (e.g. If a 1000 word assignment, 5 marks off for 1101-2000 words, 10 marks off for 2101-3100 words, and so on).

  • Introduction- explain what you intend to do in your assignment
  • Describe the key features of person-centred care and the values underpinning this approach (L/O 1)
  • Identify some of the barriers to effective communication within your chosen interaction and discuss the interpersonal and communication skills used to overcome these barriers (L/O 1)
  • Consider more broadly one key challenge to person-centred care within your field of practice and explore how nurses can best overcome this challenge (L/O 2)  
  • Discuss the range of evidence that nurses can use to ensure care is patient centred (L/O 3).
  • Conclusion –summarise your key points
  • Your assignment must be supported with reference to relevant literature.
  • Use the required APA referencing format.

Draw on your readings to identify and discuss the key features of person-centred care and the values that support PCC. This should be written in the 3rd person and referenced to the literature that has informed your understanding.

Identify some of the barriers to effective communication within your chosen interaction and discuss the interpersonal and communication skills used to overcome these barriers Explore the importance of effective communication in relation to providing holistic person-centred care.

Reflect on a specific interaction with a service user that you have undertaken or observed during your placement. Focussing on the communication between the nurse (or yourself) and the service user, consider the interpersonal and communication skills used to ensure effective communication. Discuss some of the challenges you experienced (or observed) and how these were overcome.

This can be written in the 1st person but should also be supported with references.

Remember not to include any information that may identify your service user.

Consider why it is important to ensure person-centred care is informed by evidence. Identify and discuss the key sources of evidence

Summarise the key points of your discussion and provide the reader with your concluding thoughts on what you have discussed throughout the assignment.
