Work-based Assessment Project Brief

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CANDIDATES

1. This Project Brief (Part I) for the work-based assessment (WBA) provides you with an opportunity to demonstrate your ability to research, analyse and problem solve a range of different procurement related situations and challenges.

2. You are advised to read carefully the Work-based Project Student Guide (Part II) before commencing your submission.

3. You are expected to approach your WBA project from a procurement and supply context, using the procurement of a product or service by your business unit or organisation as the context for the project.

4. You are required to apply the learning from your course to a range of tasks and activities for the procurement of the product or service you select.

5. It is important that your submission fully demonstrates the knowledge you have gained within the course studied. It is of great value to base your submission upon the business unit or organisation you work for, as that will be the one you can most easily gain the information needed for you to complete the tasks.

6. Plan your work carefully to ensure that you have addressed each sub module requirement fully and that you cover all the requirements of this WBA Project Brief.

7. Sections A and C are compulsory but have no marks allocated. Section B of your project submission will be assessed according to the assessment criteria.

8. If a marginal fail grade is awarded, the content of the reflective learning statement may be used in order to determine whether the submission might be upgraded to a pass grade. The overall pass mark is 50%.

9. Personalised WBA documentation will be e-mailed to you within two weeks. You and your supervisor must complete the statement of authenticity. All WBA documentation should be included as part of your WBA submission when it is handed in.

10. Please include your registration number (printed on your WBA documentation) on each page and indicate the word count for each section.

11. Please ensure you hand in your submission no later than the deadline date: 8^th May 2026 – by close of business local time (8 working weeks to complete submission). Results will be released 5^th August 2026.

WBA PROJECT BRIEF

Section A: Introduction to your organisation (300 words)

Prior to commencing this task you are required to provide a 300 word introduction to your organisation and business unit, outlining the nature of the products/services, markets, demand patterns, organisational structure and brief history. This is to help the assessor, internal verifier and UNDP/CIPS moderator to put your answers to the tasks into context. You are also required to carefully identify a real and relevant procurement case from your organisation or business unit to be used as an example and reference point in Section B. The case you select must be for the procurement of products or services (or a combination). You should first provide a brief background of this case, and then answer the questions listed below in Section B in relation to that purchase. Please note that this information is not assessed and does not carry any marks.

Section B: WBA Project

In this section you must answer all the 10 sub-module questions listed in Table 1. It is important that you here demonstrate that you can apply and utilize your learning obtained from the Level 3 training course on the procurement case you identified and presented in Section A. You are specifically asked to demonstrate that you can:

1. Identify and apply relevant theories, concepts, rules and regulations (weight 40%)

2. Analyze the application supported by example(s) and evidence (weight 20%)

3. Structure and present your application and arguments (weight 20%)

4. Draw consistent conclusions and recommendations (weight 20%)

The following questions are all taken from the modules of the “UNDP/CIPS Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Public Procurement” course content and must be answered by making reference to your (in Section A) identified and presented procurement case.

Each sub module question must be answered as part of this compulsory task. Each of the 10 sub module questions should be considered to be of equal weighting.

Section C: Reflective Learning Statement (300 words)

This section is a personal reflection of what you have learned through studying this course. It is an opportunity to consider how this knowledge will support your future development.

As a guide you might wish to consider the following questions:

• Which specific areas of the course as a whole have had the greatest impact on you?

• What went well with the procurement process, what went wrong, what problems could have been avoided, what you would do differently next time and the lessons that can be learned through this project?

• How do you think what you have learned will affect the way in which you view and undertake your role in the future?

No marks are awarded for completing this section but it is compulsory and your submission will not be submitted for marking without you completing a Reflective Learning Statement.
