You are an electrical engineer working for a consultancy and have been tasked with refurbishing the lighting and power within an office.
Currently the office is illuminated using fluorescent lighting using magnetic ballast transformers as current control in the luminaries.
Explain the performance of the electric and magnetic circuits employed within the lighting equipment including the transformers.
If the new lighting installation is going to comprise of 6 LED luminaries with an individual resistance of 15Ω, illustrate the key principles of connecting the circuits in series and then parallel stating the advantages and disadvantages of the methods.
Using Appendix H of the On Site Guide, design a power circuit for the office in the drawing provided using the symbol set at the end of The On Site Guide and state the regulations in the guide that you used to make your decisions for placing the equipment and the equipment choice.
Within the building in the above scenario, there are 6 offices and a kitchen. These employ radial power circuits, ring power circuits, lighting circuits and an instantaneous water heater rated at 5 kW. Evaluate the use of these circuits. Discuss maximum current carrying capacities of the cables, power values, cable sizes and circuit protection for the range of circuit applications.
