Guidance

Your assignment should include: a title page containing your student number, the module name, the submission deadline and the exact word count of your submitted document; the appendices if relevant; and a reference list in AU Harvard system(s). You should address all the elements of the assignment task listed below. Please note that tutors will use the assessment criteria set out below in assessing your work.

You must not include your name in your submission because Arden University operates anonymous marking, which means that markers should not be aware of the identity of the student. However, please do not forget to include your STU number.

Word count: 3000 words (maximum)

Please refer to the full word count policy which can be found in the Student Policies section here: Arden University | Regulatory Framework

The word count includes everything in the main body of the assessment (including in text citations and references). The word count excludes numerical data in tables, figures, diagrams, footnotes, reference list and appendices. All other printed words ARE included in the word count.

Students who exceed the wordcount up to a 10% margin will not be penalised. Students should note that no marks will be assigned to work exceeding the specified limit once the maximum assessment size limit has been reached.

Assignment Task

Please select an organisation of your choice. This may be your own organisation, or one that you are familiar with. Note; all apprentices must use their own organisation, in which to undertake this critical evaluation and do not have the option to select another one with which you are familiar with).

Write a report to the CEO of your organisation, addressing the following areas on strategic planning and ethical decision making. This is a secondary research activity with primary research not required. However, you may use your knowledge of the organisation in answering the questions below. Your report should be structured as follows:

  1. Introduction. Set the scene for your report, explaining its importance to the organisation and what you are going to cover (250 words).
  2. Provide a critique of the current organisational and people strategies within the organisation. How has the organisation responded to current trends? What can they improve upon? (LOs 1 and 2, 500 words)
  3. How has the organisation managed change? Critically analyse at least two examples of strategies that have been employed and recommend potential improvements (LO3, 500 words).
  4. Provide a critique of how the organisation has employed corporate social responsibility, ethics, equality, diversity and inclusion and sustainable management practices within its strategy. What are the benefits of aligning these areas with organisational strategy and culture? Theory should be included in this response (LOs 4 and 5, 1000 words).
  5. Identify key ethical principles within the organisation and reflect on the importance of employing principle-led decision-making. Please use actual examples from the organisation to support your answer (LOs 6 and 7, 500 words).
  6. Conclusion. Summarise the main points of your findings (250 words).

(Total 100 Marks)

Formative Feedback

Students will be able to submit 40% of the final word count to the tutor for formative review. Students will select which sections will be reviewed and highlight the text for the tutor.

The feedback is designed to help you develop areas of your work and it helps you develop your skills as an independent learner.

If you are a distance learning student, you should submit your work, by email, to your tutor, no later than 2 weeks before the actual submission deadline. If you are a blended learning student, your tutor will give you a deadline for formative feedback and further details.

Formative feedback will not be given to work submitted after the above date or the date specified by your tutor - if a blended learning student.

Referencing Guidance

Assessment Criteria (Learning objectives covered – all).

Level 7 is characterised by an expectation of students’ expertise in their specialism. Students are semi-autonomous, demonstrating independence in the negotiation of assessment tasks (including the major project) and the ability to evaluate, challenge, modify and develop theory and practice. Students are expected to demonstrate an ability to isolate and focus on the significant features of problems and to offer synthetic and coherent solutions, with some students producing original or innovative work in their specialism that is potentially worthy of publication by Arden University. A clear appreciation of ethical considerations (as appropriate) is also a prerequisite.
